We install SSH (the Secure SHell) on all our VPS' by default, though you are of course free to install whatever software suits your requirements once you have logged in for the first time.

Because the process is very similar to connecting to one of our shell accounts, we recomend you read Connecting To A Shell Account. The following alterations are required to connect to your VPS, however:

  • Your username will be 'root', rather than the username you signed up with
  • Your password will be in the welcome email we sent you
  • The RSA key fingerprint printed by your SSH software will be different for each VPS, and should be provided in your welcome email to allow you to ensure you are connecting to the correct server
  • You will not see the 'Welcome to Labyrinth Data Services' banner
